FROZEN PIPE THAWING

Frozen Pipe Thawing
IF YOUR HOME IS SUFFERING FROM FROZEN PIPES, WHAT’S YOUR FIRST MOVE?

It’s best to be prepared in case this happens to you this winter. If you are experiencing issues with the lack of water pressure and flow from your faucets or there is noticeable condensation on your pipes, you may be dealing with frozen pipes. While this problem can occur due to the outside temperatures reaching 32° F, normal copper and PVC pipes will begin to show signs of freezing around 20° F. After noticing signs of freezing, it is best not to wait for warmer temperatures to thaw them out as the increased pressure can cause your pipes to either crack or even burst.

Take a look at the following steps if you need to take action. With Adams by your side, you won’t have to worry about a thing.

  • First, turn off the water at the shut-off valve.
  • Next, you need to open the faucet at the lowest point in the house. If you have a basement, we recommend a faucet there. When you do this, it allows water to drain out as the ice melts.
  • Lastly, you should heat the exterior of the pipe with a hair dryer. Be sure to slowly apply the heat. Move the hair dryer back and forth like you do when you’re drying your hair.

If you are unable to locate the frozen pipe or cannot properly thaw it on your own, our team of heating contractors are available 24 hours and 7 days a week to handle your frozen pipe thawing needs. We are proud to serve those across the Schenectady, Albany, Saratoga Springs, Latham, and Clifton Park, NY areas.

YOU SHOULD NEVER ATTEMPT TO THAW EXPOSED PIPES WITH AN OPEN FLAME, SUCH AS AN ACETYLENE TORCH.

This could generate a spark or cinder that could cause a fire.

If you cannot seem to identify the root cause of the problem on your own, all you have to do is turn to the certified professionals at Adams Heating & Cooling Co. Inc. Thanks to our 50+ years in the industry, we will be able to promptly assess the frozen pipes and your overall hardware to get your faucets operational.
